Cast aluminium billet has a heterogeneous microstructure after VDC. Segregation, dendritic structure and undissolved phases lead to profile defects and die wear during extrusion. Homogenization heat treatment eliminates this heterogeneity, significantly improving billet quality and machinability.
GUMEN homogenization furnaces are delivered with a ±5°C uniformity-guaranteed heating profile and integrated forced cooling system. Batch or continuous configurations are available depending on capacity.
The value of the homogenization furnace lies not only in the heating step but also in the cooling profile. Slow cooling can lead to re-precipitation, while rapid cooling can cause cracking risk. GUMEN's integrated air or air-water forced cooling system provides the cooling rate optimised for each alloy. Forced cooling also offers a metallurgical advantage: the microstructural conditions necessary for the billet to deform more easily during extrusion are established.
